Originally trading as Washington and Riley Ltd, the business was founded in 1935 as an architectural ironmongery specialist. Over nine decades it has continuously evolved — embracing new disciplines, expanding its capabilities, and developing deep expertise in the manufacture and installation of third-party accredited fire doors.
Celebrating our 90th anniversary in 2025, we reflect on a heritage built on quality craftsmanship and a commitment to safety that has remained constant throughout our long history. As fire safety legislation has grown more demanding — particularly following the Fire Safety Act 2021 and Building Safety Act 2022 — we have invested continuously in our manufacturing capability, certification portfolio and installation teams. Our BM TRADA Q-Mark accredited installation teams operate nationwide, bringing the same quality control to site that runs through our manufacturing process. We install what we make — there is no handoff risk.
Ongoing Compliance
Fire door compliance does not end at installation. Our inspection and maintenance programmes keep your estate compliant throughout its lifecycle — with the written documentation to prove it at every stage.

UKAS-accredited fire door manufacture scheme (BS 476 part 22 / EN 1634). Includes Initial Type Testing, EXAP, Factory Production Control, with annual or bi-annual FPC audits.

Third-party installer competence scheme. Our teams are assessed on site, subject to ongoing surveillance, and every certified installation is fully traceable — giving clients confidence in safety and performance.
BM TRADA Q-Mark Maintenance & Repair
Accredited maintenance and repair scheme ensuring fire doors continue to perform as originally tested. Correct components, compliant repairs, regular audits and full traceability throughout.
